Bambu PLA Translucent is a visually distinctive 3D printing filament available in ten vibrant colors, optimized for artistic and decorative applications. Its matte, frosted finish diffuses light evenly, making it ideal for crafting custom lightshades, vases, and lanterns. The translucent quality emulates frosted glass while maintaining mechanical strength suitable for long-term indoor use.
Spool and Dimensions
The filament has a diameter of 1.75 mm and is wound on an ABS spool with a thermal resistance of 70 °C. The spool measures 200 mm in diameter and 67 mm in height. Net filament weight is 1 kg.
Recommended Printing Settings
Before printing, drying in a blast drying oven at 50 °C for 8 hours or on an X1 series heatbed at 60–70 °C for 12 hours is advised. Humidity during printing and storage should remain below 20% RH. The nozzle temperature range is 200–240 °C, and compatible nozzle sizes include 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8 mm. Bed temperature should range between 35–65 °C. A textured PEI plate, smooth PEI plate, or cool plate with glue is recommended for adhesion. The cooling fan must be turned on. Optimal printing speed is below 150 mm/s, with a retraction length of 0.6–1.0 mm and a retraction speed of 20–40 mm/s. A chamber temperature of 25–45 °C is advised. Maximum overhang angle is 55°, and maximum unsupported bridging length is 30 mm. Support materials compatible with standard PLA can be used.
Physical Properties
According to ISO 1183, the density of the material is 1.22 g/cm³. Melt index measured at 210 °C with 2.16 kg load is 4.08 ± 1.5 g/10 min. Melting temperature is 156 °C, glass transition temperature is 54 °C, Vicat softening temperature is 61 °C, and heat deflection temperatures are 55 °C (1.8 MPa) and 60 °C (0.45 MPa). Saturated water absorption at 25 °C and 55% RH is 0.34%.
Mechanical Properties
Young’s modulus is 2880 ± 190 MPa (X–Y) and 2550 ± 150 MPa (Z). Tensile strength is 55.4 ± 5 MPa (X–Y) and 28.9 ± 4 MPa (Z). Breaking elongation is 11 ± 3.1% (X–Y) and 9.6 ± 1.7% (Z). Bending modulus is 3000 ± 120 MPa (X–Y) and 2650 ± 140 MPa (Z). Bending strength is 85 ± 3 MPa (X–Y) and 42 ± 4 MPa (Z). Impact strength is 18.5 ± 3.7 kJ/m² (X–Y) and 8.5 ± 1.2 kJ/m² (Z), with notched impact strength at 6.7 ± 2.2 kJ/m².
Chemical and Safety Properties
The filament is composed of polylactic acid and is odorless under normal use. It is non-hazardous to skin and stable under normal storage and handling conditions. It is insoluble in water and not resistant to acids, alkalis, or some organic solvents, but it shows good resistance to most oils and grease. The material is flammable and combusts to release water and carbon oxides, with odorless combustion products.
Testing and Annealing Recommendations
est specimens were printed at 220 °C with a bed temperature of 35 °C, a speed of 150 mm/s, and 100% infill. All specimens were dried and annealed at 50 °C for 8 hours before testing. For printed models, annealing at 50–60 °C for 6–12 hours is recommended. The effectiveness of annealing varies with model geometry and print settings. A blast drying oven should be used to ensure even temperature distribution. Microwave or kitchen ovens are not suitable, as they can damage the material or prints.
